Marianic nous raconte :

     "J'ai commencé à écrire ce titre en 2019, alors que j'étais à Londres pour poursuivre ma remise à niveau en anglais, dans le but de créer mon prochain album rock, exclusivement dans la langue de Shakespeare. Car après avoir écrit en français mes deniers opus (2 albums  « Dans ma love song » & « Cure de désintox » et un single : « Icare Song »), j'avais vraiment envie de revenir à mes premières amours, le rock (voire le punk) et l'anglais.

     L'année auparavant, en 2018, j'étais déjà partie à Londres pour un premier séjour. Dans cette école, toutes les salles de classe avaient un nom, qui  faisait référence à la culture British. Ma classe s’appelait "Alice's room" en référence à "Alice in Wonderland" de Lewis Carroll. Elle était magnifiquement décorée, avec des gravures de John Tenniel (1er illustrateur de "Alice aux pays des merveilles" à l'époque de la sortie du livre, en 1865), des cookies, du thé, une théière etc...  je l'ai photographiée et j'ai vraiment aimé étudier dans cette pièce, avec mes 2 super "teachers" Tom et Nikki, qui sont cités dans la chanson. Écrire une chanson sur cette salle de cours, était une évidence, car j'aime l'univers décalé et fou de Lewis Caroll : le "No sens". Et faire un clip, c'était l’occasion de délirer sur le décor et les tenues, avec mes musiciens. On s'est bien amusé ! Même si c'est un travail de dingue. J'ai tout réalisé de A à Z !

     Mais l'histoire ne s'arrête pas là.  Au départ je pensais retourner à  Londres pour faire le clip (ou au moins quelques belles prises de vue), dans la salle de classe avec mes 2 professeurs, être filmée dans les rues de Londres,  et peut-être même y aller avec  mes musiciens (suivant mon budget !). Mais la Crise covid est arrivée. Après avoir reporté à 4 reprises mon départ, je me suis résignée à le tourner ici en France, vers Grenoble... avec masques et gel hydroalcoolique... Et c'est là que cette chanson prend tout son sens. Car "Alice's room" n'est plus !  Évidemment, avec la crise internationale, toutes les écoles de langues on souffert. Beaucoup ont dû rendre les clés de leurs locations. C'est ce qu'il c'est produit avec cette école. Tom et Nikki ont dû retourner chercher leur petites affaires, cahier, stylos, livres etc, la larme à  l’œil, et ont tant bien que mal essayé de survivre, comme beaucoup d'entre-nous, en faisant des leçons via Zoom ou Skype.  C'est triste, mais cela donne un sens encore plus fort à ce titre. Alice's room n'est plus... Vive Alice's room !  Alice's room is no longer ... Long live Alice's room!   . Quand le "No Sens" prend tout son sens....

     Quant au single, nous l'avons enregistré à Grenoble (Home studio), fait mixer chez Achemized Music Production, un ami de Manchester (qui a travaillé avec Peter Hook) et fait masteriser par Pete Maher de Londres, ainsi que 3 autres titres. Je voulais un son "anglais". Je suis seule au texte et nous sommes tous à la musique. Je l'ai composé avec ma guitare acoustique, avec 4 accords et ensuite les musiciens ont apporté leur précieuse patte. Je ne l'ai encore chantée devant aucun public, sauf à Manchester et au Cavern Pub (Beatles) à Liverpool cet automne, avec ma guitare acoustique.  J'aime bien faire ça et j'envisage d'y retourner pour faire connaître mes autres chansons au public anglais, en jouant dans la rue ou dans des "Open Mic" (scènes ouvertes). Marianic tells us:

     "I started writing this track in 2019, when I was in London to do a refresher in English, with the aim of creating my next rock album, exclusively in English. Because after having written in French my last opus (2 albums "Dans ma love song" & "Cure de désintox" and a single: "Icare Song"), I really wanted to return to my first loves, rock (even punk) and English.

     The year before, in 2018, I had already gone to London for a first stay. In this school, all the classrooms had a name, which referred to British culture. My class was called "Alice's room" in reference to Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland". It was beautifully decorated, with engravings by John Tenniel (1st illustrator of "Alice in Wonderland" at the time of the book's release, in 1865), cookies, tea, a teapot etc ... I photographed and really enjoyed studying in this room, with my 2 awesome "teachers" Tom and Nikki, who are mentioned in the song. Writing a song about this classroom was obvious, because I like the quirky and crazy world of Lewis Caroll: the "No sense". And making a music video was an opportunity to go wild about the set and the outfits, with my musicians. We had a lot of fun ! Even if it's crazy work. I did everything from A to Z!

     But the story does not end there. At the beginning I thought of going back to London to do the clip (or at least some good shots), in the classroom with my 2 teachers, to be filmed in the streets of London, and maybe even to go there with my musicians (next my budget !). But the Covid Crisis has arrived. After postponing my departure 4 times, I resigned myself to filming it here in France, towards Grenoble ... with masks and hydroalcoholic gel ... And this is where this song takes on its full meaning. Because "Alice's room" is no more! Obviously, with the international crisis, all language schools have suffered. Many have had to return the keys to their rentals. This is what happened with this school. Tom and Nikki had to go back to pick up their little things, notebooks, pens, books etc, tearfully, and somehow tried to survive, like many of us, by taking lessons via Zoom or Skype. It's sad, but it gives an even stronger meaning to this title. Alice's room is no longer ... Long live Alice's room! When the "No Sens" takes on its full meaning ....

     As for the single, we recorded it in Grenoble (Home studio), had it mixed at Alchemized Music Production, a friend from Manchester (who worked with Peter Hook) and had it mastered by Pete Maher from London, as well as 3 other tracks. I wanted an "English" sound. I am alone in the text and we are all in the music. I composed it with my acoustic guitar, with 4 chords and then the musicians brought their precious touch. I haven't sung it in front of any audience yet, except in Manchester and at the Cavern Pub (Beatles) in Liverpool this fall, with my acoustic guitar. I like doing that and I plan to go back there to introduce my other songs to the English public, playing in the streets or in "Open Mic" (open stages). This is my Troubadour Tour"
